Andrew McGregor has an eclectic background in the not-for-profit and social enterprise worlds drawing from his expertise as a filmmaker, Grammy nominated bagpiper, inventor, writer, chessboxing champion, entrepreneur, frequent TEDx speaker, mentor, Highlands games athlete, photojournalist, magician, Curator of MindshareLA, and a founder of The Tiziano Project. He was named one of ‘LA’s 40 Most Interesting People’ by LA Weekly, was part of a team that won the SXSW Interactive Award for Activism, won the ‘Foreigner’ division of an Independence Day Chess Tournament in Kazakhstan, he was featured in the Sports Section of the ‘NY Times’, and he has even received a Certificate of Appreciation from LA’s City Council!

MINDSHARELA / CURATOR

With 150 unique events since 2006, MindshareLA is an event series and mecca for Angeleno entrepreneurs, designers, technologists, and other creative, forward-thinking characters seeking inspiration and connection. MindshareLA gathers hundreds of Angelenos for events filled with inspiration and interaction. Our salon-style events include short eclectic presentations, amidst interactive experiences, games and colorful performances.

I help curate and put on the quarterly series and we’re looking for for partners for our 2020 program with UCLA.

WHERE THE ROBOT THINGS ARE / FILMMAKER

Where the Robot Things Are is the story of a rat and a robot who fall in love while guiding a group of people out of a mine field after they have gone insane. The film is written and directed by Andrew McGregor and is a combination of live action and animation with a running time of about four minutes.

Where the Robot Things Are is making its festival run in 2020 and we’re looking for festivals and screening opportunities. In addition to seeking distribution partners, I hope to collaborate on future projects that can utilize the film’s unique voice and vision!

OOMVELT RESEARCH / ROBOTICIST+HEAD OF RESEARCH

Oomvelt is a nonprofit, open-source research project developing wearable technology to assist in the training of APOPO’s HeroRats and help them communicate to a human when they find a landmine.

We are currently engaged in pilot programs with Los Angeles schools to enable students to contribute to the real world development of the technology and its implementation. Additionally, we are searching for philanthropic support and grants to enable us to move the technology into use in the field.
